Joy Mangano’s My Little Steamer, which was developed by Ingenious Designs, LLC, claims to give you a “Perfectly steamed shirt in seconds.” “America’s Favorite Non-Iron,” claims to be the safest on the market with, “No Spitting. No Staining. No Burning. No Worries.”
However, many unlucky users have become unsuspecting burn injury victims due to a defect with this steamer. “I have never ever felt pain like that,” stated one University of California freshman after suffering a severe burn injury after her first use.
Harmon Parker’s Take on this Problem
Harmon Parker’s very own, Attorney Christa Collins, was interviewed by 8 On Your Side following the personal injury lawsuit and class action lawsuit against Ingenious Designs, LLC. During this interview, Christa explained,
“What we’re alleging is that consumers have purchased this product which is not safe or fit for its intended purpose. People have contacted us with third-degree burns, second-degree burns. I’ve seen no warning that put people on notice that the product can unexpectedly and spontaneously spew water out of the head and burn them. You only really have to go to the Home Shopping Network’s website to see that consumers have been explaining their stories with the product, the problems they’re having with the product. And they’ve been doing that for years.”
Christa later explains how the class action lawsuit against Ingenious Designs, LLC states that the company knew about the dangers associated with the steamer since 2013: “During the taping of a video to promote and sell the steamer on the Home Shopping Network, hot steam and boiling water repeatedly leaked and spewed from the steamers, burning HSN employees.”
Even with this knowledge, and the potential harm this device poses to others, the Home Shopping Network continued to sell the steamer— which will undoubtedly end with even more burn injuries.
